Economic approaches once seen as progressive or niche—Wellbeing Economies, Doughnut Economics, Place Based Capital, and Community Wealth Building—are now gaining widespread recognition and are shaping mainstream conversations, policy and practice.

This shift has been amplified by the first-ever EDA National Roadshow on The Power of Place.

The event demonstrated how place-based economic development is shaping a new economy for this new era and how these economic models are transforming economies globally.

It was inspiring to see Australia’s economic development professionals deeply engaging in these critical discussions, exploring how these models can be and are being implemented in practice.

For me, both personally and professionally, this was an exciting moment. The opportunities and solutions that we’ve been advancing with colleagues and a dedicated group of places are now taking center stage—resonating with practitioners across the country.

It was an absolute privilege to present alongside Neil McInroy, Lidewij Koene-Sloss, Julie Schmidt, Greg Bowden FIML, Jess Scully, Jeremy Gill, A/Prof Rick Macourt, Monica Barone.

A huge thank you to Economic Development Australia Limited for hosting this important event and for the opportunity to be involved.

I’m excited to see how each participant takes these insights forward and drives meaningful economic change in their organisations and communities.
